Domingos P. F. Almeida studies Agricultural Sciences since the age of 15. He obtained his PhD in Horticultural Sciences from the University of Florida, USA, in 1999.

He started his academic career at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in 1993 and thought at the University of Porto between 2001 and 2013. He is currently professor at Instituto Superior de Agronomia, University of Lisbon.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, he has had managerial functions in agri-food businesses. This immersion in the practice of management has structured his thoughts regarding knowledge as a production factor within agri-food business organizations.

His professional career has been functionally diversified and coherent in the approach to agri-food value chains. Based on the synergy between 20 years of academic experience and 8 years of innovation management, he pledges to continue creating, disseminating and applying useful knowledge to foster the competitiveness of the agri-food value chains. He strives to adopt in his research, outreach, and teaching activities a value chain approach oriented to opportunities and solutions outside the walls of academia.
