Dário Passos graduated in Tech. Eng. Physics (2003) by the University of Algarve where he stayed as a research assistant in Non Linear Optics until 2005. He got his PhD in Physics from the IST, Technical University of Lisbon in 2010 in the area of Astrophysics/Solar Physics. Between 2011 and 2017 Dário worked as a post-doc researcher at CENTRA-IST in Solar Physics and Space Weather Modelling as part of an international collaboration between the University of Évora, IST-Lisbon and the University of Montreal (Canada). During this period he was also an invited Astrophysics professor at IST for 2 years.
Late 2017 Dário joined CEOT as a post-doc in the area if infrared-spectroscopy, data analysis and complex systems modelling. His current interests include data science (statistics and machine learning techniques) applied to light scattering and absorption spectra of turbid media and prediction models with application to non-destructive measurement of macroscopic biological tissue properties. His current interests include deep learning neural networks architectures applied to the problem of VIS NIR chemometrics and Reinforcement Learning algorithms applied to combinatorial optimization problems.
